Karcher K5 Premium Electric Pressure Washer Review

There are millions of reasons why any homeowner should own a pressure washer. The most prominent of which is that it makes outdoor cleaning a breeze. For cleaning decks, walkways, and vehicles, an electric pressure washer is the most reliable tool to use since it uses hardly any water while still delivering an impressive amount of cleaning power.

Karcher K5 Premium Electric Power Pressure Washer Review

In this article, we’ll take a look at what some people call the best “lightweight pressure washer” available – the K5 Premium from Karcher. It’s really not difficult to see why this pressure washer is so popular, so if you’re thinking of investing in such a tool, continue reading about what makes this product absolutely great.

PSI and GPM Ratings

Two areas where a pressure washer outclasses a traditional garden hose is the amount of cleaning power it delivers while hardly using any water at all. The Karcher K5 uses only 1.4 GPM while producing up to 2,000 PSI. Spraying gutters, driveways, and outdoor furniture clean is much easier and quicker with the K5 compared to the average garden hose which provides only up to 60 PSI while wasting 24 GPM of water.

Noise Levels

Admittedly, pressure washers have one major drawback, which is how loud they can be. However, the K5 breaks the norm with its whisper-quiet motor and purrs while pressurizing water and remains completely quiet when not activated. The only noise you and your neighbors will ever hear will be from the blasts of pressurized water as it hits the surface of whatever surface you’re spray-cleaning.

Variable Wand

Not every surface will require anywhere near 2,000 PSI to clean – e.g. vehicles, windows, metal gutters – which is why it’s important that you adjust the amount of pressure shot out of the spray gun. The K5 Premium comes with a Vario Power Spray Wand which lets you change pressure and spray-fan settings with a twist of the nozzle. You can adjust how much pressure to shoot out of the gun on the fly – an advantage that this system has over traditional quick-connect nozzle tips.

Karcher K5 Premium

Onboard Detergent Tank

The K5 Premium comes with an onboard detergent tank. To shoot soap out of the gun, fill the tank up with your choice of detergent and simply twist the nozzle to the soap setting. We found that this tool shoots out a satisfyingly thick layer of suds for ultimate dirt-eliminating power.

Onboard Hose Reel

One feature that we think doesn’t get enough appreciation is a built-in hose reel. There aren’t very many things that are more annoying than trying to wrap up a long hose without it tangling or weighing you down. The K5 Premium comes with a reel hose which reels the hose in effortlessly and without tangles and knots. This is definitely a handy feature.

Karcher K5

Maneuverability

This 32-pound pressure washer can easily move to all corners of your yard for thorough cleaning. It comes with two heavy-duty 7.7-inch plastic tires that travel easily on paved walkways and decks. Some users have complained about the tires’ inability to cross grassy terrain without picking up patches of grass, but you can bypass this problem by lifting the K5 Premium by its suitcase-style handle.

Range of Movement

Another thing that improves the maneuverability of the Karcher K5 Premium is its super-long power cord (35 feet) and pressure hose (25 feet). Despite being a corded-electric model, you have an extremely wide radius to transport and clean. You can further extend your range of movement by using an outdoor-safe extension cord with the appropriate wire gauge.

Karcher K5 Electric Power Washer

Durability

We’re glad to say that the inner components of the K5 Premium (motor and pump) are highly durable and able to withstand gushing water with virtually no risk of leaking or water damage. Unfortunately, it’s the plastic hose connector that’s prone to damage. Earlier, we commended this model for having large wheels that help it cross all sorts of terrains, but they hardly do anything to keep the unit from toppling over.

In the event that it does, if the plastic hose connector kisses cement, it’ll more than likely snap or break in some way. The good news is that replacements are inexpensive. The bad news is that you can only get them from official Karcher products suppliers.

Verdict

As you can see, there are many things to love about the Karcher K5 Premium. It delivers enough power to spray-clean any outdoor object free of dirt and debris. It comes with a wide range of features that make the tool easy and enjoyable to use. Except for the problems with the plastic wheels and delicate hose connector, the K5 Premium is, in our opinion, there’s absolutely no reason why this pressure washer doesn’t belong in your home.

Best 2000 PSI Electric Pressure Washers

Electric pressure washers are magnificent pieces of equipment to have at home. Not only are they used to clean cars, motorcycles, and bikes, but they can also be used to keep your home’s windows spotless, push fallen leaves and twigs off your driveway, and even spray-clean patio furniture. Not to mention they’re extremely fun to use.

A quick internet search will yield thousands of results about the various specs, features, and models of pressure washers. If you’re going to purchase one, you should read our quick buying guide on pressure washers and the most important specs to consider.

Water Pressure

Obviously, electric pressure washers get their name by expelling constant bursts of pressurized water. The amount of force is determined by how powerful the motor is at keeping water at a constant pressure.

Water pressure is measured in pounds-per-square-inch (PSI), and in this article, we’re going to focus on models that provide around 2,000 PSI because they deliver ample power for cleaning applications around the home and yard.

Greenworks GPW2001

Gallons-per-Minute

The GPM rating shows how much water is blasted out of the wand every 60 seconds. The greatest thing about pressure washers is that their water-efficiency is amazing compared to the traditional garden hoses. A good 2,000-PSI pressure washer uses less than 2 GPM, whereas a garden hose provides only around 40 PSI while using upwards of 20 GPM.

Different Pressure Settings

Obviously, you don’t want to blast so much pressurized water on your car that you strip its outermost layer of clear coating. You also don’t want to super-clean your home’s windows and have to pick up the glass when you’re done hosing the windows.

You can adjust how concentrated the blast of water is by either changing nozzle tips or by twisting the nozzle, depending on the make and model. A good pressure washer should come with at least a 0° option for super-concentrated jets of high-pressure water for clearing oil spills and a wide 40° spray, safe to use on windows, vehicles, and patio furniture.

Detergent Tank(s)

When cleaning your cars, patios, and outdoor furniture, you’ll want to give them a quick spray of suds to lift any greasy stains. Most pressure washers come with a single tank for soap, but others come with two tanks. Multiple tanks allow for different types of soaps. Having more than one tank allows for quick-cleaning different surfaces without having to empty out a tank to replace the detergent.

Wheels

There’s nothing worse than getting into the groove of cleaning your house, driveway, or car and having to lift the pressure washer nearer to where it’s needed. The best models should come with a set of durable wheels that allow for gliding across flat and uneven surfaces.

Top 5 Best 2000 PSI Pressure Washers

Now that we know what makes a good 2,000-PSI pressure washer, it’s time to find the right model for us. You’ll find many different models on the Internet, but to help you make a decision, we’ve compiled a list containing the top five models for you to choose from.

5 Greenworks GPW2001 Electric Pressure Washer

The first item on our list is from the popular manufacturer of garden tools: the GPW2001. This water pressure packs a 13.0-amp motor that produces up to 2,000 PSI. It has a water-flow rate of only 1.2 GPM. This might sound like hardly any water, but even when shooting wide jets of pressurized water, you’ll be able to move all sorts of debris off your lawn and driveway.

The GPW2001 comes with 0°, 25°, and 40° quick-connect nozzle tips. For getting your suds on, you can attach the low-pressure foam sprayer that can draw detergent from one of two built-in tanks. To make cleaning jobs easier, this machine comes with a long 25-foot high-pressure hose and a 35-foot power cord.

4 Karcher K2000 Electric Pressure Washer

Karcher – a producer of some of the world’s most-used cleaning and decontamination tools – makes our list with the reliable K2000. This pressure washer also features a 13.0-amp motor but uses 1.3 GPM of water to keep your vehicles, yard, and patios squeaky clean.

Users can attach a turbo 0°, the high-pressure 15°, or the wide-spread 40° nozzle. On the K2000 you’ll find two 0.5-gallon tanks for different detergents, and the tanks are removable for easy cleaning and refilling. There’s also a large compartment for placing almost any type of cleaning accessory you may have. When you’re all done, cleanup is a breeze by spinning the hose reel which neatly wraps and stores the 25-foot long hose in a jiffy.

3 Karcher K5 Electric Pressure Washer

If you thought that Karcher couldn’t top their amazing K2000, you’d be wrong. The K5 is another 2,000-PSI pressure washer, but it uses slightly more water – 1.8 GPM – for cleaning surfaces.

One improvement over the K2000 is that the K5 comes with two different wands: a Vario wand where you simply twist the nozzle to get the right concentration of flowing water, and a Dirtblaster Wand which releases an orbiting blast of low-pressure water for eliminating easy-to-remove messes. The K5 comes with an onboard “plug-and-play” soap tank, and you can adjust how much soap to apply during each use to prevent waste.

2 PowRyte Elite 5001740 Electric Pressure Washer

A lesser-known but very capable manufacturer of cleaning tools, PowRyte, has come out with one of the best 2,000-plus-PSI pressure washers available today. The 5001740 comes with a 14.5-amp motor that blasts upwards of 2,000 PSI at a water-flow rate of only 1.8 GPM.

You won’t need to worry about misplacing small quick-connect nozzles with this model since the width and pressure of the spray – between 0° and 40° – is adjustable by simply twisting the nozzle to the left or right. To sweeten the deal, PowRyte also throws in an extra turbo nozzle with a narrow/wide spray-range of between 0° and 50°.

1 Sun Joe SPX3000 Electric Pressure Washer

The final item on our list comes from the mega-manufacturer of outdoor and garden tools. The SPX3000 from Sun Joe is a simple tool, but what it lacks in features it makes up for in performance.

The SPX3000 features a 14.5-amp motor that produces up to 2,030 PSI at a flow rate of only 1.76 GPM. With this tool, you have four different spray widths to choose from 0°, 15°, 25°, and 40°. The fifth quick-connect is dedicated for blasting suds at any surface from one of the two on-board 0.25-gallon detergent tanks. What really sets this pressure washer apart from the others is its ability to blast warm water – up to 104°F – for easy grease- and oil-removal.

Sun Joe vs Karcher: Electric Pressure Washers

Pressure washers are some of the handiest outdoor tools you could ever own. If you’ve ever mumbled under your breath about how painstakingly difficult it is to scrub driveways clean of oil spills, then you’d appreciate the supreme power and efficiency that a reliable pressure washer can offer. When choosing between gas or corded-electric pressure washers, electric wins every time (less expensive, more environmentally friendly, portable to an extent, and doesn’t release toxic fumes).

Sun Joe SPX3000 vs Karcher K5: Electric Pressure Washer Comparison

Sun Joe SPX3000

In this article, we’re going to compare two amazing corded-electric pressure washers – the Sun Joe SPX3000 and the Karcher K5. They’ve both collected a tremendous amount of positive reviews from customers, they’re easy to use and maneuver, and they offer enough power for most – if not all – outdoor cleaning jobs. However, between the two popular brands, which of these models offers more value to its usersLet’s find out by jumping right into our comparison.

Karcher K5 vs Sun Joe SPX3000: Electric Pressure Washer Comparison

Karcher K5

PSI and GPM Ratings

Sun Joe SPX3000
PSI and GPM ratings indicate how much power the pressure washer delivers and how much water it needs to do it. A balance between pressure and water-usage is what makes a great machine. The Sun Joe offers up to 2,030 PSI and 1.76 GPM. This means you have enough power for caked-on messes while also deliver low-pressure streams for delicate surfaces such as windows and pushing away leaves.

Karcher K5
As for the Karcher, you get a slightly lower PSI and significantly reduced GPM ratings. This machine produces up to 2,000 PSI and 1.4 GPM. These indicate that this device is able to produce almost as much power as the Sun Joe with about 20% less water consumption. However, many customers found that this simply doesn’t provide enough water for most cleaning tasks.

Conclusion: Regarding performance, we agree that the Karcher doesn’t deliver enough water for such a high-pressure device, whereas the Sun Joe has that balance between power and water usage. Unfortunately for Karcher, this is one of the most important features to consider when looking for a pressure washer, and Karcher has already failed to perform.

Sun Joe SPX3000 vs Karcher K5

Quick-Connect Nozzles vs Adjustable Wand

Sun Joe SPX3000
There are two main setups for adjusting how much pressure is exerted from the wand – quick-connect nozzles and a twisty handle. The Sun Joe comes with five quick-connect nozzles that offer four different levels of pressurized water and a soap-dispensing nozzle. The connects are easy to attach to the tip of the wand and have their own dedicated storage spaces at the back of the unit’s handle.

Karcher K5
As for the Karcher, you get two wands: one specifically for blasting a pencil-point stream of water for the toughest oil spills and caked-on grime, and another that features a twisting handle for adjusting pressure levels. Detaching the wands from the 25-foot hose is easy to do, and the machine is designed to house the wands for easy storage.

Karcher K5 vs Sun Joe SPX3000

Karcher K5

Conclusion: It all comes down to personal preference. Some users like using quick-connect nozzles while others prefer a twisting wand for adjusting water pressure. They’re both easy to use, easy to swap, and deliver their advertised spraying width and range.

Hose Storage

Sun Joe SPX3000
When owning a pressure washer, one of the most important things to do is keep the hose in a safe place. This means either detaching the hose and coiling it or reeling it in using a built-in hose reel. The Sun Joe doesn’t feature a hose reel so you’re left manually coiling the 20-foot long hose by hand and either placing it on the hook of the machine or elsewhere where it won’t get damaged.

Sun Joe SPX3000

Sun Joe SPX3000

Karcher K5
As for the Karcher, you get a handy hose reel that coils the 25-foot long hose in seconds. We found that with the hose reel, you’ll never experience any tangling or damage. Winding and unwinding the hose is effortless.

Conclusion: Between manually coiling the hose and reeling it in, we prefer the latter. There’s really no substitute to a hose reel when it comes to proper storage. However, with care, Sun Joe’s flexible hose won’t get damaged when manually winding it up after a long day’s work.

Weight and Maneuverability

Sun Joe SPX3000
Without wheels, the weight of the Sun Joe SPX3000 is the only thing standing of portability. In general, heavier-duty machines will weigh more due to their beefy engines. The Sun Joe is rather lightweight, weighing in at only 31 pounds, making it easy to lift and carry to wherever pressure cleaning is needed. In addition, the machine comes with a 35-foot long power cord and a 20-foot hose, giving you around 50 feet of movement away from an electrical outlet.

Karcher K5
The Karcher weighs in at 32 pounds, making it just as portable as the Sun Joe. In addition to the weight of the unit, you get a 35-foot long power cord and a 25-foot hose, giving you five extra feet of movement (immaterial but worth noting).

Conclusion: Both of these machines are lightweight and come with super-long power cords and pressure hoses. If you need five extra feet of movement, then the Karcher can deliver. However, in most cases, it won’t make a difference, and these two units are pretty much identical in this regard.

Karcher K5

Karcher K5

Water Inlet Temperature

Sun Joe SPX3000 and Karcher K5
We just want to take the time to talk about an overlapping spec really quickly. Unlike many other models on the market, even including some Sun Joe- and Karcher-made units, both of these machines can use water of up to 104°F. Warm water dissolves stains much quicker than cold water does, so we consider this feature to add value to these pressure washers.

Sun Joe vs Karcher: Bottom Line

Between the Sun Joe SPX3000 and the Karcher K5, it’s clear that we’re fans of the former. First of all, it delivers as much and as little pressure as you need, whenever you need, with the proper amount of water usage without sacrificing performance. Unfortunately, we can’t really say the same for Karcher’s unit.

Indeed, the Karcher’s built-in hose reel is something that’s missing in the Sun Joe, but we can’t excuse lack of performance for added features. In addition to Sun Joe’s superior performance, the machine also comes with the company’s own Total Stop System which turns the pump off whenever the trigger is disengaged, cutting down on electricity and water consumption.

A Longer Guide on How to Use a Pressure Washer

Pressure washers are handy cleaning tools that can be used for a variety of cleaning tasks. Pressure washers shoot out a fine spray of water at an alarming pressure, allowing you to clean grime or dirt off a common garden or home items.

HOW DOES A PRESSURE WASHER WORK?
Pressure washers run through electric or gas motor that powers a pump. This pump generates and increases pressure on water coming out of a typical household garden hose.

This high-pressure water then travels through another hose and comes out via a handheld wand that is aimed at the cleaning surface.

TYPES DF PRESSURE WASHER
Electric Pressure Washers
Best suited for light and small projects, such as cleaning vehicles and patio furniture. Electric models are also quieter than their gas counterparts.

Gas Pressure Washers
More powerful and function better than regular pressure washers in the market. These washers are suitable for more robust and larger jobs, such as cleaning the decks, patios among others.

CLEANING POWER
The cleaning power of a pressure washer is measured by gallons per minute (GPM) and pounds per square inch (PSI). These ratings help you determine how powerful or fast the stream of water will be.

IMPORTANT COMPONENTS
Water Pump: The water pump is among the most important components of a pressure washer and is considered the heart of a pressure washer.

Water Inlet: You will probably find a filter located in the inlet to prevent dirt from entering the washer and clogging up the system.

Gas and Electric Engine: Bigger pressure washer models feature gas engines whereas smaller models are powered by electricity.

High-Pressure Hose: A high-pressure hose is a tube that extends from the washer and connects to the cleaning attachment you have decided to use.

Cleaning Attachment: Depending on the brand and model you are using, you can switch from a simple device to a rotating brush to a spinning wand spray that offers better cleaning.

CHOOSING A PRESSURE WASHER
BE CAREFUL not to invest in a machine that is more powerful than you need.

Light-Duty Machines (1,200 to 1,900 PSI)
Capable of cleaning up to 10 to 40 feet in about 10 minutes. These machines are best suited for cleaning garage floors, vehicles, and patio furniture.

Medium-Duty Machines (1,950 to 2,600 PSI)
Capable of cleaning up to 40 to 90 square feet within 10 minutes. Best suited for cleaning larger areas, such as sidewalks, decks or driveways.

Heavy-Duty Machines (2,650 to 3,800 PSI)
Capable of cleaning 90 to 190 square feet in about 10 minutes. This type of machine is best suited for cleaning sidings and fences.

Evaluate The Spray Nozzle
A telescoping wand makes it easier for homeowners to clean sidings and other raised areas. The width of the spray can be adjusted by turning and twisting the nozzle to accommodate different tips.

Evaluate The Accessories
Evaluate all the accessories before purchasing the product, such as a broom attachment and rotating scrub brush for cleaning gutters.

Consider The Weight Of The Machine
Keep in mind a heavier unit will be difficult to move around and will require two hands to operate.

HOW TO USER PRESSURE WASHER
Consider A Cleanser
Sometimes you might need little extra help. Rest assured, you won’t require soap unless there are mold and mildew.

Clean In Sections
If you are only working with water, start working from top to bottom.

Prep For Spray
If you are about to clean the windows, consider preparing them to make the task easier. Start by shutting and locking all the windows.

WINTERIZE YOUR PRESSURE WASHER
If you live in a place where you experience winter, it is best you take precautionary steps to prepare your power equipment for hibernation.

Protect The Engine
The engine is the single most important component of the pressure washer. If you have a gas powered pressure washer, use a fuel stabilizer.

Flush And Drain Your Machine
Use instructions and warnings printed in the user manual.

Safeguard The Pump System
To prevent rust and protect the pump system against freeze damage, use lubricants and pump saver anti-freeze products.

Ensure Proper Storage
Store the pressure washer in a cool, dry place to protect it from elements outside.

TIPS ON PRESSURE WASHING YOUR HOUSE
Use The Right Tools Ensure the machine is powerful enough to complete the job.

Safety First
Read the instruction manual carefully and watch a couple of videos online to learn how to use the machine properly.

Protect Surrounding Items
Plants and vehicles, such as bicycles and cars, remain vulnerable to high-pressure chemicals and streams.
