NEXX Garage NXG-100b Smart WiFi Remotely Control Existing Garage Opener Review
What’s the worst part about owning a garage? If you answered manually opening and closing the garage doors when you pull up or want to take your car(s) out, you’re right! Stepping out of the comfort of your vehicle at night can cause quite a fright, even if you live in a safe neighborhood. Because of this, you may have thought about purchasing and installing automatic garage doors that open and close with a push of a button.
By why settle for traditional clickers when you could get a smart garage remote such as the Nexx garage NXG-100b? We rely on technology for so many things, so why not upgrade your existing garage opener with a smart device that does so much more than control your garage door?
Quick and Easy Installation
This device only works if you have an existing garage door opening system, but setting the NXG-100b is a breeze. The kit comes with everything you’ll need except for a garage door opener and home 2.4-GHz Wi-Fi which are the only prerequisites. Oh, and you have to have a garage.
The included manual will tell you how to install both the downloadable app on your Apple or Android device, how and where to attach the NXG-100b device, and how to how to hook it up to your garage door opener. When everything’s said and done, all that’s left to do is browse through the app and check out the awesome features that this handy device has to offer. Speaking of which…
The NXG-100b connects to your home’s Wi-Fi to receive commands via the downloadable app from wherever you are on the planet. If you’re planning a trip to Nowheresville and are expecting a package from Amazon, just let the delivery person know that you can open the garage door to let them in to drop the packet off. No more losing your online purchases to scum-of-the-earth porch thieves.
So what if you’re not the only person who needs to leave and enter through your garage? Well, Nexx garage already thought of that; have any trusted person download the app and give them access via the master device (your smart gadget). This feature will come in handy when your child or spouse forgets or loses their keys.
Due to your poor time-management skills, you probably leave for work way later than you should. In this case, it’s not uncommon for people to hit third gear by the time they reach their driveway, and it most likely means they’ve forgotten to shut the garage door on their way out. The NXG-100b has your back; this nifty device will send an alert to your mobile device, reminding you that the door was left open.
The NXG-100b offers real-time alerts that let you, the “master,” know who has accessed the garage door and when. So texting your loved ones asking whether they’re home yet or not is a thing of the past; just take a look at the alerts and see whether they’ve opened and/or shut the garage.
No Hidden Fees and Monthly Subscriptions
The thing about modern security devices like porch cameras is that your safety is basically in the hands of others, and to pay their checks, you need to give the company money on a regular – usually monthly – basis. Now, we’re not saying that their services are a rip-off, but it’d be nice if you had full control.
The NXG-100b gives you full control without additional fees after purchase. Everything done via the mobile app is free – from setting up multiple users to receiving alerts. After you receive the NXG-100b, you only have to worry about the additional cents you’ll pay in electricity annually.
One Door Only
What if you have a multi-door garage? Will a single NXG-100b device work on opening and shutting both doors? Unfortunately, no. If you want to control all of your garage doors, you’ll have to purchase additional NGX-100bs and install the app on multiple devices. This isn’t as big of a problem as it may seem, especially if you and your spouse have assigned parking spaces in your garage. That being said, it’d be nice if there were a multi-door function, but what are you gonna do?
Compatible with Amazon Alexa, Google Assistant, and IFTTT
How much easier can it get than controlling your garage doors via a mobile device? Apparently, a heck of a lot easier thanks to the NXG-100b’s compatibility with three popular online services. Control your garage door from a distance with the help of Amazon Alexa or Google Assistant. And if you’d like to create open/shut schedules for your door, check out IFTTT’s services. They’ll also send email or text alerts letting you know who accessed the device and when.
Iffy Tech Support
Since smart garage door openers are a relatively new product, it makes sense for manufacturers to have call centers on standby for most of the day. This is true with Nexx Garage, and from our experience with contacting them (problem regarding connecting the NGX-100b to Amazon Alexa [not showing up]), they were extremely helpful in solving the problem.
However, numerous customers have experienced something entirely different. Either tech support was unwilling to help or (infinitely worse) didn’t know how to solve the problem after the device’s warranty expired. We’d recommend, if possible, speaking with a sales rep before settling on the NGX-100b for your garage-door-opening needs.
It’s clear that our experience in installing and using this product differs greatly from many others, so the best we can say about the Nexx garage NXG-100b is that you’re either getting a really great product or something that might disappoint you later on. Assuming you’re not experiencing any problems with setting up the device, you should be more than satisfied with the several features that it has to offer.
The thing we love best about the NGX-100b is its automated notifications alerting us who has accessed the door and when. It really keeps us in the loop on what’s going on at home, even if we’re on the other side of the planet or town.
