What Does A 110V MIG Welder Offer?
A 110V MIG welder is the simplest MIG welder that you can purchase. Most 110V MIG welders are far less powerful than their 220V counterparts – and we’ll get into why that is in just a moment – but they still offer an efficient welding experience, while also giving you the ability to weld most things.
Since a 110V MIG welder only offers 110V of power – which is less energy than a 220V MIG welder – you are unable to work with certain kinds of thick metals. As a general rule, a 110V MIG welder is unable to work with steel that is greater than ⅛”. But, that being said, most household welding tasks do not require anything more than 110V of power, so this may not be much of an issue.
The two main benefits that an MIG welder offers, compared to a 220V MIG welder, are mobility and convenience. A 110V MIG welder is not very large, which means that you can pick it up and use it with ease. But, along with that, you can also bring it to other places quite easily, as well. This is further enhanced by the fact that a 110V MIG welder will work with just about any 110V outlet.
What Does A 220V MIG Welder Offer?
A 220V MIG welder is an MIG welder that offers 220V of power. Since an MIG welder of this sort offers 220V of power, it is capable of dealing with thicker metals that other MIG welders are unable to properly weld.
Most of the MIG welders that you can purchase are capable of welding metals that are up to 5/16” and ⅜”. Those are significant measurements, and this welder can work well with metals that are as thick as that. More often than not, those metals aren’t required for household tasks but, rather, industrial tasks, which means that a 220V MIG welder is ideal if you will be welding for industrial purposes.
Since an MIG welder of this sort offers 220V of power, you must plug it into a 220V outlet. If you don’t, and plug it into a 110V outlet, you may only have access to 110V of power. Because of this, using a 220V MIG welder can be, at times, inconvenient.
To go along with that, most 220V MIG welders are rather large. Moving them around can be cumbersome, and so can using a welder of this sort. Because of this, these aren’t the best welders to purchase if you need convenience or the most pleasant welding experience.
In the end, 110V MIG welders are ideal if you will be performing simple welding tasks and want a convenient welding process. But, if you need something more powerful and efficient, a 220V MIG welder is the welder to buy.
